A Strategic Space Shooter
You pilot a small spaceship struggling to survive against an endless wave of enemies. The objective is simple : shoot down enemy ships as they appear on screen. When a ship is destroyed, a survivor emerges. The player can either pick them up to earn points or leave them behind, in which case they will eventually be pulled into the sun.
The player’s arsenal includes a laser and a bomb capable of destroying all enemies on the screen. In case of danger, the hyperspace function allows teleportation to a random location.
As the game progresses, enemies become more aggressive and actively chase the player. Different types of enemies include:
- Enemy Ships : Seven types of alien ships appear, each with unique behaviors.
- Ghost Ship : After some time, a stealthy ship emerges and fires directly at the player.
Bonuses and Risks
The player must avoid collisions with enemy ships, the sun, or enemy fire, as these result in the loss of a life. The game ends when all lives are lost, bringing the battle to a close. However, additional lives can be gained by rescuing survivors from enemy ships, and extra bombs can be collected, offering a chance to extend gameplay and achieve a higher score.

An Immersive Adaptation
The vector-based display ensures excellent clarity and smooth gameplay. The central sun acts as a constant hazard, requiring careful spatial awareness. Sound effects, including gunfire and explosions, enhance the action and reinforce the arcade atmosphere.
Unlike its arcade counterpart, this Vectrex adaptation features a few modifications to suit the console’s capabilities:
- Progressive difficulty, making the first few minutes accessible to new players while maintaining a challenging experience over time.
- Smoother handling of inertia and shooting, providing better control of the spaceship.
- Limited use of the bomb, requiring strategic planning.
What Stands Out
✅ Strengths:
- Fast-paced and demanding gameplay.
- Unique mechanic of rescuing survivors.
❌ Weaknesses:
- Difficulty can become frustrating over time.
- Repetitive feeling after multiple playthroughs.
A Captivating and Challenging Space Experience
