Our Vectrex Adventure at Gamescom 2025

Gamescom, one of the biggest video game events in the world, took place in Germany from August 20 to 24, 2025. As many of you know, we were there, and it was the place where we had the chance to present the Vectrex Mini for the very first time.

An unexpected participation

To be honest, at first we had no plans to attend. Everything changed when René Meyer discovered our work. He was immediately won over and convinced us that the Vectrex Mini deserved to be shown to the public. He reserved two tables for us and welcomed us warmly (thank you René if you’re reading this!). So we packed up two original Vectrex systems and two Vectrex Mini prototypes.

Fun fact: One of the prototypes didn’t yet have a working controller, so we had to use a backup one to make it playable.

An arrival full of surprises

We arrived in Germany on Wednesday, August 23, to set up the booth. We were still carrying the Vectrex consoles down the street when a fan recognized the Vectrex. That alone already made us really happy. But the best part was finding out he actually works at Konami, and soon enough the conversation turned to Scramble. For those who don’t know, Scramble is a Vectrex classic under Konami’s license. We, of course, exchanged contacts, and while nothing is official yet, the idea of seeing this title included in the Vectrex Mini had us dreaming from the very first evening.

The Retro Area as our playground

Our booth was naturally located in the Retro Area. A wonderful spot, filled with consoles from every era. Right next to us, we even discovered an American Vectrex in perfect condition.
For our own stand, we had prepared everything, with visuals, flyers, and everything needed to show off our consoles. We also had our custom Vectrex t-shirts and caps, just to make it clear that we were proudly representing the Vectrex. They weren’t for sale, but the cap seemed to be very popular, since one actually got stolen!

A welcome beyond expectations

From day one, the reactions went far beyond what we imagined. Photos and videos of the Vectrex Mini spread quickly and the excitement grew just as fast. Social media lit up, especially with an impressive number of messages from Japan, which touched us deeply. On site, we met many enthusiasts who already own one or more Vectrex systems, collectors still searching for theirs, newcomers captivated by the console’s unique design, as well as journalists from several countries.

Delighted Families

When the doors opened to the general public, families showed up in great numbers. The Vectrex quickly caught their attention and the kids, with their spontaneous way of playing, got into it immediately, just like their parents. We had many conversations, and some parents even promised their children a Vectrex Mini. A little thought goes to the controller of one of the original Vectrex units, which sadly gave up during the event. It will definitely need a repair session…

An exciting Gamescom

Gamescom 2025 will stay in our memories for a long time. Thanks to René, we were able to present the Vectrex to an incredibly diverse audience. We came back with wonderful encounters, constructive feedback, renewed energy, and the certainty that the Vectrex, whether original or Mini, still sparks the same emotions as it did in the beginning. The Vectrex Mini prototypes were very well received, and of course we noted all of your feedback to fine-tune the final product.
