In the world of synthwave and retro nostalgia, a new musical project is making its debut: Clan of Vectrex. Behind this name lies a Swedish collective with a unique mission, to compose a soundtrack dedicated to every game ever released on the Vectrex.
(Note: This project is an entirely independent initiative and is not affiliated with our group, although it caught our attention with its originality!)
A Sonic Journey Back to 1982
The Vectrex, released in the early 1980s, is a legendary retro-gaming console. Its vector display and unique design continue to fascinate. Clan of Vectrex draws inspiration from this aesthetic to create synthetic music that is nostalgic, immersive, and hypnotic, evoking the spirit of the ’80s. The project aims to musically recreate the epic emotion of playing Vectrex back in its heyday, game by game, across its entire catalog.
“The Vectrex vector graphic game console hit the market 1982, filled a generation of kids with extatic joy, only to tragically meet its doom in 1984 when it went out of production. Some of the kids from the Vectrex crowd handled the intense loss and trauma, by switching from the Vectrex joystick to the knobs, sliders and buttons on synthesizers. They became the Clan of Vectrex and dedicated themselves to honor every single one of the 27 original Vectrex games, with an instrumental song performed on synthesizers. Their music is a tribute to the vibe emerging from the iconic vector graphic game console and the electronic sonic landscape from that time. All hail the Vectrex!”
Fortress of Narzod: The First Track
On June 14, 2025, Clan of Vectrex released their very first official single: Fortress of Narzod, inspired by the cult game of the same name.
Produced and composed by Notlim Yeldarb (the project’s sound architect), the track is an immediate dive into a world of analog synthesizers, cosmic melodies, and catchy rhythms. It echoes the spirit of Tangerine Dream, early Vangelis, and carries a modern twist that grounds the project in the contemporary synth scene.
A Project for Everyone, Not Just Nerds
While Clan of Vectrex naturally appeals to retro-gaming fans, the group insists it’s not a niche project. Their music is crafted for all lovers of vintage synthetic sounds, those who enjoy night drives to synthwave, dancing in Düsseldorf to robotic beats, or simply losing themselves in a timeless analog atmosphere.
A Sonic Tribute to a Legendary Console
Clan of Vectrex isn’t just making music, they’re building a sort of Vectrex religion, where fans “worship the Vectrex,” as they like to say.
Fifteen tracks are already lined up for release in the coming months, and on July 14, 2025, their first EP titled Volume 1 will mark the completion of this initial phase.
