For Vectrex fans, every new fan-made controller is exciting news! Sean Ferigan, a well-known creator of retro peripherals, strikes again with his latest creation: the “Vector Tankage” Twin Stick Controller. Designed to emulate the arcade experience of games like Battlezone, this dual-joystick controller looks like a true gem.

(Note: This project is an entirely independent initiative and is not affiliated with our group, although it caught our attention with its originality. We’re big fans of Sean’s products!)

A design built for gameplay

The Twin Stick Controller relies on two 2-way joysticks, each equipped with its own fire button. It’s an ideal setup for games that require precise and symmetrical control of movement and shooting, like Battlezone or Starmash Zone. One of the standout features of this controller is its small OLED screen, which displays the active mode: Vectrex, Atari, or PC.

There’s also a flashing red LED that acts as the Start button and suction cups on the base that ensure excellent stability during gameplay. This is a truly thoughtful touch for intense gaming sessions. To round out the aesthetic, a small decorative graphic detail on the case glows in the dark. An irresistible retro-futuristic flourish for nighttime gaming.

Multi-platform compatibility

Although this controller was primarily designed for the Vectrex, it’s completely versatile. Thanks to its DB9 connector, it’s compatible with Atari consoles (2600 and C64), and it also works via USB on PC (cable not included). It has been successfully tested on Battlezone via MAME, Battlezone 2 by Peter Hirschberg, and Battlezone on Vectrex via PiTrex and VecFever.

A passion project, not a mass-produced item

Sean’s controllers are handmade, artisanal creations entirely designed and assembled by hand by him. Each unit is therefore unique, with all the charm and character that come from a passionate hobbyist’s craftsmanship. From the careful selection of components to the finishing touches, every detail reflects the time, care, and dedication Sean puts into his work.
