ABOUT THE SCREEN
- Why not a CRT?
The CRT is an iconic part of the original Vectrex, but it can no longer be produced today as no factories make them for consumer use anymore. Since our goal is not to create a perfect copy but an accessible and playable tribute, we looked for the best possible alternative. OLED turned out to be the ideal compromise to achieve a display close to the original. - Is it possible to stream or display the console on a screen?
Yes, a video output is planned. - Can I play with integrated overlays?
Yes, thanks to the modern screen, it will be possible to play using digital overlays.
ABOUT THE GAMES
- Which games will be available?
The Vectrex Mini will have 12 built-in games with their physical overlays. It will also be possible to add more games via a microSD card. The full list is not yet finalized, but it will mainly feature titles from General Consumer Electric. - Can original cartridges be used with the Vectrex Mini?
No, the Vectrex Mini does not have a cartridge slot. - Will homebrews be supported?
Yes, it will be possible to add and play your own homebrews via the microSD card. - Are the original 3D Imager or Light Pen compatible?
No, these accessories are not compatible. The Vectrex Mini uses different display and hardware technologies.
ABOUT THE VECTREX MINI PROJECT
- Why a mini version instead of the original size?
Our goal was to create something different from the original Vectrex while still paying tribute to it, and making the system more accessible was important to us. The smaller size helps make the system more affordable, while also improving the screen rendering.
We also loved the idea of a Vectrex that could always sit on your desk. To strengthen this everyday presence, we even thought of features such as a vector clock mode. This console becomes a companion in daily life, offers fans who never owned a Vectrex the chance to finally experience it, allows players to enjoy the classics without putting their original consoles at risk, and introduces new generations to this iconic system.
Above all, the Vectrex Mini was created with the heart of a fan. As enthusiasts ourselves, we wanted something we could treasure both as collectors and as players. - How is the case made?
The shell is made using injection-molded plastic, just like the original model, ensuring a high-quality finish and durability. - Do you plan other projects around the Vectrex?
We have many ideas and projects in mind, as we are above all passionate about the Vectrex, but for now we are fully focused on the Vectrex Mini to complete this project that matters so much to us. - Where can I follow updates about the project?
You can find updates on our official website (News section) and on social media. We’re active on X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Bluesky. - Will the console be available on other platforms later?
For now, the Kickstarter campaign will be the only way to secure a console. After production, we may offer limited quantities on our website or through small independent stores, but we do not plan to sell through major retailers.
