Gamescom 2025 will remain an unforgettable moment for us. After some years of development and research, we were finally able to show the public the first prototypes of the Vectrex Mini. It was truly a pleasure to see reactions, talk to so many people, and share this project that has been close to our hearts for such a long time. There are still adjustments and details to fine-tune, but we’re making progress and are happy to finally be able to talk about it with you!
Why this blog post
Since the announcement of the console, we’ve received a lot of questions; many of which we also asked ourselves in order to provide you with clear and official answers. This article allows us to tell you more and explain some of our choices.
A campaign we want to live up to expectations
Many of you are eagerly awaiting the Kickstarter campaign, and so are we. We still don’t have a precise date, but what’s certain is that the launch is planned before November 2025. Since we want to refine every detail and deliver a solid campaign, this extra time will allow us to move forward without rushing.
As for the price, it will be €149 excluding shipping costs (around $175), with worldwide delivery available. Fees will vary depending on the country but will range between €8 and €25 (around $10 and 30$). Of course, there will also be limited-quantity early bird offers.
A mini format, the original spirit intact
The Vectrex Mini preserves the soul of the original console while adopting a more compact format. It’s half the size of the 1980s Vectrex and comes with a 5-inch AMOLED screen. We felt this was the best choice to reproduce vector graphics faithfully, since no CRT suppliers exist anymore. Compared to a simple OLED, AMOLED offers a sharper image and deeper blacks, ensuring the readability and contrast of vector games.
The Vectrex Mini will be powered via USB-C, use a Bluetooth controller, and feature a video output. It runs on an emulator based on VecX, known for its stability and accuracy. From the moment you power it on, the Vectrex Mini will include 12 built-in games with their physical overlays. And for those who want to go further, a microSD slot will allow you to add more games, including homebrews.
Designed for collectors and today’s players
The original Vectrex remains a rare machine, sometimes hard to find… That’s why the Vectrex Mini is aimed at anyone who can’t afford an original, those who want to play without risking damage to their collector’s console, and also newcomers discovering the Vectrex for the first time. It fits perfectly on a desk, looks great in a collection, and above all, brings back a gaming atmosphere we all love.
And in case you were wondering: no, iconic accessories like the 3D Imager or the Light Pen are not compatible with the Vectrex Mini, though we would have loved to include them. But of course, they’re accessories we’ll never forget!
What’s next?
Our priority is to run a successful Kickstarter campaign and deliver a Vectrex Mini that stays true to the original spirit. We have plenty of ideas for the future, but for now all our energy is dedicated to this project. When time allows, we’d also like to share more behind-the-scenes content, making-ofs, and anecdotes about the design of the machine. We’re moving step by step, and we can’t wait to share more news with you very soon.
